Your Impact

You will provide counsel on engagement-related legal issues as well as issues of professional or reputational risk.

Specifically, you will support Client Service Teams on complex legal arrangements including performance-based arrangements, technology deployments, M&A arrangements and others. You will operate autonomously and use excellent and nuanced judgment and leverage your ability to problem-solve across multiple contexts and stakeholders, including with Senior Partners. You will develop areas of subject matter expertise and will leverage that expertise in your client work and across the broader department.

You will lead and implement projects that impact key priorities including team and client service efficiencies. You will serve as a subject matter expert and will radiate your knowledge across Asia and Global Legal. You will provide leadership to lesser tenured colleagues including serving as a mentor and trainer for colleagues. You may be responsible for hiring and onboarding new colleagues.

Your work will help mitigate key risks in our client service and enable client service through balanced and risk-calibrated guidance and advice. You will focus on providing excellent client service, leading on collaborations within and outside of the Legal team and will focus on fostering an environment that focuses on providing excellent legal advice coupled with sound commercial judgement, developing efficiencies in how we operate as a team and in how we provide client service.

You will be based in Seoul, Korea, as part of our Asia Legal Team.

Your Qualifications and Skills

  • JD (or equivalent) required; must be qualified to practice law in the US and/or Korea
  • 8+ years of post-qualification private practice and/or in-house legal counsel experience
  • Exceptional collaborative skills to work across various firm functions and capabilities, effectively challenging conventional wisdom
  • Ability to operate independently, with excellent judgment
  • Demonstrates ability to handle increasing volume, complexity and variety of work (e.g., expanding beyond contracts) without sacrificing quality or impact
  • Builds trust-based relationships (e.g., with Associate Partners, and Partners and/or office/ Firm Functions leadership) and works directly with them /is sought after by them directly; known for expertise and ability to problem solve on most difficult contracts
  • Ability to have difficult conversations when needed with respect to risk (and strong judgment on relative risk, and which battles to pick)
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, including the ability to initiate tasks independently and see them through to completion
  • Exceptional time management to meet your responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment
  • Ability to work in-person and travel as needed (team schedules and office locations may vary)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and Korean, with the ability to adjust your style to suit different perspectives and seniority levels
