Role Description The Assistant General Counsel is a 1099 contract, on-site role based in Norfolk, VA, responsible for providing legal support across DIT TECH’s training programs and organizational operations. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and MOUs with workforce boards, community partners, and employer clients, as well as advising on program policies and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The role involves monitoring legal issues related to labor and employment, data privacy, and corporate governance, and developing internal guidelines and risk management strategies. The Assistant General Counsel will collaborate with leadership and program teams to support ethical, compliant workforce initiatives, conduct legal research, prepare memoranda, and assist with training staff on legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in identifying, analyzing, and managing general legal issues and providing practical legal advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge and experience in labor and employment law, particularly as it relates to DOL civil rights violations and section 1981 lawsuits
  • Candidates should possess skills in data privacy and information security compliance, including familiarity with relevant federal and state regulations governing student, trainee, and employee data.
  • Candidates should possess an understanding of corporate governance, including board policies, organizational compliance frameworks, and nonprofit or education-focused governance structures.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Virginia, or eligibility for in-house counsel registration.
  • Experience (preferably 3+ years) in education, workforce development, nonprofit, or technology sectors is beneficial.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and contract drafting skills, with attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.

8-20 weekly

Rate:

$40-60 an hour
