Associate Attorney – Tax Controversy

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Tax Controversy Department. The ideal candidate will have at least law or litigation and be comfortable handling federal and state tax disputes, audits, and negotiations. Tax experience is preferred, but strong litigation experience is also acceptable, as we can provide tax-specific training.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients before the IRS and state tax authorities to negotiate payment plans, settlements (Offer in Compromise), and compliance issues
Advocate for clients in federal and state tax audits (income tax, sales tax, and other audits)
Provide counsel on IRS procedures, tax assessments, collections, penalties, and statutes of limitation
Draft legal communications to tax authorities and advise clients on tax compliance
Handle IRS account issues for individuals and businesses, including entity classification corrections
Collaborate with other practice areas on tax-related corporate and cryptocurrency matters
Participate in firm training and contribute to business development initiatives
Effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced legal environment
Basic Qualifications
J.D. degree from an accredited law school
Active Illinois Bar license
Experience handling federal and state tax issues for individuals and businesses
Strong legal research, writing, and negotiation skills
Ability to communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals and clients
Experience in drafting legal documents, negotiating resolutions, and handling disputes
Preferred Qualifications

Experience handling IRS and Illinois tax audits, payment plans, and disputes
Tax Court and District Court litigation experience
