Our client, a leading international law firm, is seeking an experienced Regulatory & Compliance Lawyer to join its growing team in Lisbon. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer with strong expertise in regulatory enforcement, investigations, and corporate compliance advisory work.

The successful candidate will advise domestic and international clients on complex regulatory and compliance matters, with a particular focus on white-collar crime, administrative offence proceedings, and criminal compliance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters, including risk assessment, internal controls, and governance frameworks
  • Manage and support internal investigations involving allegations of misconduct, fraud, corruption, and regulatory breaches
  • Represent and advise clients in matters relating to white-collar crime and criminal proceedings
  • Provide legal counsel on administrative offence proceedings and interactions with regulatory authorities
  • Design, implement, and review criminal compliance programmes, policies, and procedures
  • Conduct compliance audits, gap analyses, and regulatory due diligence exercises
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, internal policies, and compliance-related documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-border teams on multi-jurisdictional regulatory and investigations matters
  • Support client relationship management and business development initiatives

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7–10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) gained at a reputable law firm or in-house legal/compliance function
  • Strong expertise in:
  • White-collar crime
  • Administrative offences / regulatory enforcement
  • Criminal compliance
  • Excellent technical legal skills and strong commercial awareness
  • Experience handling sensitive investigations and high-stakes regulatory matters
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work independently while working effectively within a team
  • Fluent Portuguese and English (written and spoken); additional languages are advantageous
