SUMMARY OF POSITION
The VP Compliance, Data Privacy & Corporate Legal will be a senior member of the Legal Department, responsible for supporting and strengthening the company’s pharmaceutical compliance framework, with particular focus on data integrity, GxP compliance, ethical business conduct, third-party compliance, and privacy governance across the company’s international pharmaceutical activities.
This role will provide broad legal support across corporate, commercial, governance, data privacy, and compliance matters, while acting as a key legal partner to functions involved in product development, licensing, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, commercial, and partner-facing activities.
The role is intended for a pragmatic, hands-on lawyer with strong pharmaceutical compliance experience, including experience working with legal, compliance, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams on matters such as third-party and business-partner risk, sanctions and restricted-party screening, HCP/HCO interactions where applicable, promotional and non-promotional activities, transparency, investigations, privacy, data governance, and data integrity. The position requires someone who can combine technical legal expertise, sound judgment, strong business partnering, and the ability to manage a diverse range of legal and compliance topics in a fast-paced international pharmaceutical environment.
ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE
This role will report directly to the General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer and will work closely with senior management, Legal, Compliance, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Commercial, Business Development, HR, Finance, IT, Information Security, and other business functions across the group.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities of this role include the following:
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s pharmaceutical compliance program, including policies, procedures, controls, training, monitoring, reporting, investigations, remediation, and governance.
- Provide legal and compliance advice on pharmaceutical industry and general corporate compliance requirements, including anti-bribery and anti-corruption, sanctions and restricted-party screening, third-party and business-partner due diligence, conflicts of interest, transparency obligations, promotional and non-promotional controls where applicable, and interactions with healthcare professionals, healthcare organizations, patient organizations, public officials, distributors, consultants, suppliers, licensors, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the company’s data integrity framework for GxP-relevant activities, including policies, training, governance, escalation, remediation, and cross-functional controls designed to support complete, consistent, accurate, attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, enduring, and available records.
- Partner with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, IT, Information Security, Finance and business teams on data integrity and computerized systems topics, including electronic records, audit trails, access controls, data retention, system validation, change control, vendor oversight, inspection readiness, and remediation of data integrity observations.
- Provide legal and compliance support for quality, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, product, licensing, distribution, supply, manufacturing, technology transfer, and partner-facing matters, including the compliance aspects of product development and commercialization activities.
- Act as a key legal partner to the business on data privacy matters, including GDPR compliance, privacy assessments, data processing agreements, data subject rights, data retention, international transfers, incident management, privacy-by-design support for business projects, and privacy considerations in clinical, commercial, pharmacovigilance, and partner-related activities.
- Support internal investigations, compliance reviews, audit findings, inspection readiness activities, remediation plans, root cause analyses, corrective and preventive actions, and risk mitigation plans in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders and external counsel, where required.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and corporate agreements, including service agreements, consultancy agreements, supply and manufacturing arrangements, licensing and distribution agreements, confidentiality agreements, data processing agreements, quality-related provisions, pharmacovigilance-related provisions, and other business-critical contracts.
- Provide legal advice on corporate governance, entity management, board and shareholder matters, group policies, delegations of authority, approval processes, signing authorities, compliance governance, and other corporate legal topics.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and manage legal, regulatory, privacy, quality, data integrity, and compliance risks while enabling commercially sound and practical business decisions.
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of legal and compliance processes, templates, playbooks, approval workflows, contract standards, compliance review processes, training materials, reporting tools, and escalation mechanisms.
- Coordinate and manage external legal advisors where needed, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and practical advice aligned with business objectives.
- Keep the General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer informed of material compliance, privacy, corporate, data integrity, regulatory, quality, and legal risks, developments, and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified lawyer in a European jurisdiction or other relevant jurisdiction.
- Approximately 8–15 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally including significant in-house experience within a pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, or similarly regulated company.
- Strong hands-on pharmaceutical compliance background, preferably gained as part of a legal, compliance, or legal compliance team rather than solely as the designated compliance officer.
- Good understanding of pharmaceutical compliance standards, industry codes, anti-bribery and anti-corruption principles, sanctions and restricted-party screening, third-party due diligence, partner risk management, HCP/HCO and patient organization interactions where applicable, transparency requirements, promotional and non-promotional review, conflicts of interest, sponsorships, grants, and donations.
- Practical experience with data integrity and GxP compliance matters, including familiarity with ALCOA / ALCOA+ principles, electronic records, audit trails, computerized systems, access controls, documentation practices, inspection readiness, and remediation of data integrity issues.
- Experience advising on data privacy matters, ideally within the pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, or similarly regulated sector.
- Broad legal capability across commercial contracts, corporate legal matters, governance, risk management, investigations, compliance controls, and business advisory work.
- Ability to work effectively with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, IT, Information Security, Commercial, Business Development, Finance, HR, and senior management.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to provide practical, balanced, risk-based, and solution-oriented legal and compliance advice in a fast-paced international environment.
- Confident stakeholder manager with the ability to influence senior colleagues and build credibility across legal, compliance, commercial, quality, regulatory, corporate, privacy, and technical functions.
