Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) Project Attorney
Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project, d/b/a Standpoint
Standpoint has an opportunity for a motivated and resourceful LAV Project Attorney.
Preference will be given to candidate submissions received by 4/30/25, but the position will
remain open until filled. We will be conducting immediate and ongoing review of
applications as we receive them, so we encourage and appreciate early applications. This is
a federally funded grant position with an expected end date of September 30, 2027 (unless
federal policy changes impact this grant before the end date). We do anticipate applying
for this grant if the opportunities continue.
Background: Standpoint (formerly the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project) is the
premiere legal resource for domestic and sexual violence victims/survivors, as well as those who
work with survivors including advocates, attorneys, and other professionals. Standpoint provides
direct representation and legal information to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Standpoint also provides extensive training, litigation support, and expert legal support to those
working with victims of domestic and sexual violence across the state of Minnesota. Standpoint
exists to promote justice for, and to respond effectively to, the constantly evolving legal needs of
domestic and sexual violence victims.
Attorney Advocate Model: Standpoint recognizes that victims need both experienced legal
counsel and an effective and skilled advocate. They share their knowledge and learn from one
another in order to provide comprehensive legal support and promote systemic change in
response to domestic and sexual violence.
SOS, Sexual Violence Services, is Ramsey County’s sole rape crisis advocacy agency. Services
are provided 24/7/365 to primary & secondary victim of all forms of sexual violence across the
lifespan. Services include crisis response and counseling; medical outreach and advocacy; legal
outreach and advocacy; information, support & referrals; and emergency financial assistance.
Job Description and Responsibilities: The attorney will represent sexual violence
victim/survivors in Ramsey County. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide holistic legal assessment and options for victim/survivors about the various ways the
law and their experience may impact them.
Provide direct representation to sexual violence victim/survivors in criminal and civil cases in
Ramsey County.
Preparation of litigation materials.
Conduct legal research.
Work collaboratively with Standpoint and SOS advocates.
Other duties as required, including supervision interns and volunteers.
Qualifications:
Commitment to Standpoint’s mission, vision and values.
Demonstrated knowledge of and expertise in the root causes and dynamics of domestic and
sexual violence.
Licensed attorney in the State of Minnesota.
Experience organizing, working with or advocating on behalf of underrepresented individuals,
including those who live in rural communities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in program or project development and implementation.
Self-starter with good time-management skills.
Computer literacy.
Willingness to learn new skills and accomplish new tasks.
Ability to pass a background check.
Access to reliable transportation.
Other relevant position information:
Must be able to work closely with sexual violence advocates.
Knowledge of other language(s) is a plus.
Knowledge of other women’s rights issues is a plus.
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $70,000-$78,000/year and is dependent on
experience (DOE).
Benefits: This position is eligible for a full benefits package including:
Generous Paid Time Off (PTO): 8 paid holiday, 15 days of vacation, 32 hours floating
holiday time, and sick time.
