Position Summary
Under the auspices of the Office of Problem Solving- Solving Courts and the Administrative Offices of the Court, and general direction of the County Administrative Judge, Court Administrator and the Drug Court Coordinator, this position will be responsible for screening all criminal defendants with new criminal charges. _ This position serves at the pleasure of the County Administrative Judge._
Position Responsibilities
1. Identifying new criminal defendants daily
2. Assessing the defendant’s criminal background and needs
3. Utilizing the RANT assessment when appropriate
4. Making appropriate recommendations to community resources
5. Maintaining data of defendants screened and recommendations given
6. Ensuring confidentiality of information obtained from defendants and through assessments
7. Utilizing different settings to meet with defendants including but not limited to the Cecil County Detention Center, Circuit and District Courthouses and virtual platforms.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education
Some college, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Certificate(s) and/or License(s)
1. Possession of a valid Class “C” non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Knowledge of court proceedings.
2. Knowledge of support and community resources.
3. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
4. Computer skills sufficient to effectively utilize MS Office and other web-based programs.
5. Strong and effective written and spoken communication skills.
6. Ability to effectively compile statistical and factual data and prepare related reports and commentary.
7. An ability to effectively organize work, determine priorities and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This role is primarily sedentary in nature but may involve occasional strenuous effort, such as handling moderately heavy boxes, tools, equipment, or other materials; walking or climbing over uneven surfaces; and sitting/standing in fixed position for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis. General conditions involve working at a computer, using telephonic equipment, and interfacing regularly with internal and/or external stakeholders.
Work is normally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, However, it may require alternate work hours to accommodate judicial demands, meetings and other commitments.
Conditions of Employment
1. Prior to appointment, employees may be subject to pre-employment medical history review and drug testing, extensive background investigation (which may require CJIS and NCIC clearance), including but not limited to reference checking, and driving history, and an evaluation of training or experience.
