Job Summary
The Legal Specialist role aids the Legal department of TACS with forced collections actions related to the collection of delinquent taxes. This position has a range of responsibilities associated with the collection of overdue payments, while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Duties
Prepare and file Warrants-in-Debt for General District Court.
Put together and file Complaints and other judgment-related legal documents in Circuit Court.
Preparation and issuing administrative Summons to Answer Interrogatories.
Issuing of administrative Distress Levies.
Performing skip tracing to locate and contact delinquent accounts.
Assist debtors via phone and email with account resolution.
Ensure all collection efforts comply with state and federal fair debt collection practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Understanding and knowledge of laws related to fair debt collection, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal databases.
Understanding of legal terms and procedures.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and legal environments.
Ability to multi-task effectively.
Qualifications
Experience as a Collections Specialist or similar role.
Computer proficiency including MS Office and databases.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; college coursework in business administration or a related field a plus
At least 2 years of experience in the collections or legal field
Additional Desired Qualifications
Work experience in a legal environment preferred.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
