Associate Attorney
AV-Rated criminal defense firm seeks a full-time Associate. We are interested in attorneys with experience or new attorneys who recently graduated from law school. Attorneys who have worked in a public defender’s office or a prosecuting attorney’s office or who have experience with criminal cases are encouraged to apply. Experience in criminal law is required. Court room proficiency a plus, and excellent legal research and writing skills are required. Applicants must be detail-oriented, have good time management skills, and be able to work independently in a team environment.
The job includes meeting with defendants, jail and prison visits, discovery review, court appearances, motions practice, conducting depositions, and participating in trials. Communicating with prosecutors to discuss discovery and negotiate plea offers is necessary. Applicants must be confident that they can advocate orally and in writing for our clients. As stated, legal research and writing is key.
The firm practices in state and federal court in Missouri and Illinois. A Missouri law license is required. The firm may assist with licensing in Illinois subject to terms and conditions. Travel to and from court in various jurisdictions in the St. Louis Metropolitan area and other parts of the state is required and will be reimbursed. Attending night court in the St. Louis region as needed is required. Nearly all travel is accomplished within the normal workday.
The compensation range is $70,000 to $90,000. Salary commensurate with experience. Firm offers competitive benefits package including individual insurance plan and 401k. Attorneys also receive commission for cases they bring to the firm.
Our firm primarily represents individuals accused of criminal offenses. We do handle some civil litigation, such as expungements, driver’s license hearings, and order of protection cases. This firm has a reputation as one of the preeminent groups of criminal defense attorneys in the area. We do not “hold our client’s hand” while we escort them to prison. This is not a “traffic ticket” firm. The firm handles the most serious offenses and believes all are entitled to zealous representation. We are fighters and pride ourselves on results.
