Position Summary
We are a boutique law firm specializing in medical malpractice and elder abuse defense, seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented remote Civil Litigation Legal Assistant. This role is ideal for a legal professional with 5–7 years of litigation support experience, particularly in defending healthcare providers, long-term care facilities, and medical professionals. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting attorneys throughout all stages of complex medical litigation, while working independently in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage litigation calendars, court deadlines, and case schedules.
E-file documents in state and federal courts, including those with complex filing procedures (e.g., California).
Organize, index, and maintain large volumes of medical records and case-related documents using MyCase.
Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling medical malpractice and elder abuse defense cases.
Draft, edit, and format legal correspondence, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, and medical chronology summaries.
Coordinate depositions, IMEs, expert consultations, and meetings.
Communicate professionally with clients, experts, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
Support trial preparation, including assembling exhibit binders, witness files, and hearing/trial logistics.
Required Qualifications
5–7 years of experience as a legal assistant supporting civil litigation attorneys, with a strong focus on medical malpractice and/or elder abuse defense.
Solid knowledge of medical terminology, litigation procedure, and healthcare documentation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal management platforms (e.g., MyCase, Dropbox, Westlaw).
Familiarity with court rules and e-filing systems in California and other relevant jurisdictions.
Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage high-volume, document-heavy caseloads.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Capable of working independently in a fully remote environment, with consistent availability during standard business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in insurance defense or with skilled nursing facility litigation.
Working knowledge of elder law issues, standard of care defenses, and long-term care regulations.
Work Environment
Fully remote position.
Salary range: $65k – $80k
Requires a dedicated home office setup with reliable internet connection.
Must be comfortable using Zoom, Teams, or similar virtual communication platforms.
