The Office of Family Representation and Advocacy (OFRA) is a State Executive Agency that exists to provide high quality legal representation and advocacy for children and parents, guardians, and custodians in child abuse and neglect cases. The agency is in the process of creating the positions necessary to fulfill its statutory requirements and implement its strategic plan.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position exists to support and assist OFRA in-house attorneys with providing high quality legal representation for children, youth, eligible adults, indigent parents, and other legal parties who are the subject of abuse or neglect proceedings, or Family in Need of Court Ordered Services (FINCOS) proceedings, or Fostering Connections proceedings, including proceedings for the termination of parental rights, adoption proceedings, or other abuse/neglect, FINCOS, or Fostering Connections proceedings designated by the Agency, as defined by statute.
How does it get done?
Duties of this position include:
Provide legal support to the Attorney’s in the Legal Services Division and OFRA Leadership.
Conduct legal research and analysis.
Draft pleadings, reports and other resource materials.
Conduct witness statements and assist in preparation for hearings, trials, mediations and out of court meetings.
Maintain case files.
Implement and maintain contract management systems, electronic and hard copy.
Mail processing and deliveries as needed.
Who are the customers?
New Mexico children, youth, eligible young adults, indigent parents, and other legal parties who are the subject or at risk of being the subject of proceedings designated by OFRA, as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Paralegal Studies and two (2) years of work experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research, and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
