Job Overview:
Our growing plaintiff personal injury law practice is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Subrogation Assistant / Paralegal to join our legal team. This role is responsible for managing healthcare lien and subrogation matters throughout the life of personal injury cases, ensuring accurate reporting, timely follow-up, and complete documentation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in personal injury law, medical billing, lien resolution, or insurance recovery who thrives in a fast-paced, process-driven environment.
What You’ll Do:
Identify applicable coverage types for each case, including:
- Medi-Cal/Medicaid
- Medicare
- Private health insurance
- ERISA plans
- MedPay
- VA/Tricare
- Open and manage subrogation claims through the appropriate government portals, insurance carriers, and recovery vendors.
- Maintain accurate records of all claim activity within the case management system.
- Save and organize all confirmations, lien notices, conditional payment letters, and related documentation.
- Conduct regular follow-up on all open claims until final lien amounts or no-lien letters are received.
- Verify dates of treatment and ensure all covered medical treatment is accurately reported.
- Review and dispute unrelated charges or incorrect dates of service when appropriate.
- Initiate settlement reporting after case resolution and obtain final lien information.
- Coordinate with the lien resolution team by providing finalized lien amounts for negotiation and payment.
- Escalate aging or complex claims requiring additional attention.
What You Should Know
Successful candidates will have working knowledge of:
- Medi-Cal (DHCS) Third Party Liability reporting requirements
- Medicare Secondary Payer Recovery Portal (MSPRP/BCRC)
- Conditional payment processes and Medicare lien requirements
- Private health insurance recovery procedures
- ERISA plans and recovery vendors
- Multi-state lien reporting considerations and when to escalate state-specific issues
Qualifications
Previous experience in one or more of the following:
- Personal Injury Law
- Subrogation
- Lien Resolution
- Medical Billing
- Medical Collections
- Personal Injury Case Management
- Experience working with DHCS TPL and/or CMS MSPRP/BCRC preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple active cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Comfortable communicating with government agencies, insurance carriers, adjusters, recovery vendors, and legal professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Pay: $23.00 – $28.00 per hour
