The State of Connecticut, Social Equity Council (SEC), is seeking an experienced and qualified individual for a meaningful role as a Staff Attorney 1, within the Social Equity Council legal unit.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

THE ROLE
The Staff Attorney will work with the SEC Legal Director to provide day-to-day legal advice, representation, and support to the SEC and its staff on a broad range of complex legal, business, operations, and regulatory issues. This role also encompasses:
With the Legal Director, advise and consult with SEC, the Executive Director, and stakeholders to identify critical legal issues, assess potential legal options, and provide individuals and teams with an analysis and range of possible legal solutions.
Develop standardized documents and design and implement compliance plans, operational guides, compliance checklists, standard operating procedures, and recommendations pertaining to a variety of regulations.
Assist in the drafting of regulations.
May act as a hearing officer or represent the agency in formal administrative and public proceedings involving legal and technical issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A degree from an accredited law school.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with matters governed by the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act.
Experience providing legal analysis and/or statutory interpretation as related to cannabis regulation and policy issues or disputes.
Experience reviewing and processing documents for disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.
Experience collaborating as a team with internal and external stakeholders to support students with disabilities.
Experience practicing law in a law firm, government agency or organization, or legal non-profit organization.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must be admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut within one (1) year of the date of appointment. Until such time that an incumbent is admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut, the incumbent shall be referred to as a Legal Assistant. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
