Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.

Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public’s access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

There is an immediate need for a Special Investigator in the Criminal Division, Delaware Child Predator Task Force. The Task Force offices are located in Dover, Delaware. This Special Investigator will work directly with the Deputy Attorney General assigned to the Task Force and law enforcement officers from Task Force affiliate agencies in pre‑arrest and post‑arrest investigations, as well as prosecution arising from the online sexual exploitation of children and related crimes.

Task Force Special Investigators are supervised by the Deputy Attorney General assigned to the Task Force.

Special Investigators with the Task Force are trained to initiate and build cases involving the online sexual exploitation of children, as well as respond to tips and referrals. Special Investigators must manage a complex caseload, investigating crimes related to technology‑assisted sexual exploitation of children, primarily arising from Cyber Tips provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Task Force Special Investigators are also responsible for interviewing witnesses, obtaining evidence, drafting and presenting electronic search warrants, attending court proceedings, testifying when appropriate, and providing overall prosecution assistance to Deputy Attorneys General on specific cases.

Special Investigators prepare and submit timely reports of interviews and investigations and maintain professional relationships, as well as strong lines of communication and coordination, with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on Task Force cases. Special Investigators assigned to the Task Force will be exposed to varying degrees of computer technology. Training will be provided as needed to meet expectations and the evolving needs of the Task Force.

Special Investigators assigned to the Task Force are frequently exposed to child exploitation material and should consider this before applying.

Special Investigators are required to maintain professional certification in numerous areas, including CJIS, DELJIS, NCIC, Auto Track, and other areas of expertise and databases specific to the Task Force.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct investigations, including conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence, and documenting findings.
  • Interview witnesses, obtain evidence, attend court proceedings, and testify when appropriate and provide overall vertical assistance to Deputy Attorney Generals on specific prosecutions or investigations.
  • Verify claims of alleged or probable violations.
  • Examine various records and documents in order to ascertain relevant information.
  • Identify, gather, collect, evaluate and preserve evidence.
  • Make judgments after evaluating all available facts and recommend appropriate action.
  • Interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare comprehensive and timely investigative reports; documenting interviews and other investigative efforts.
  • Testify in criminal courts, before a Grand Jury, or during an administrative hearing (if requested by an administrative body).
