JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the General Counsel or designee, the Paralegal will provide legal and administrative support to the Office of the General Counsel in providing a full range of legal services to the University. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with experience in litigation support, contracts, document drafting, and case management. The Paralegal will assist attorneys in handling a variety of legal matters, including contracts, employment law, real estate, and litigation support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides comprehensive legal administrative support in the form of preparation, review, organization, filing, and/or tracking of legal documents, including but not limited to contracts, pleadings, and correspondence.
Works independently and/or with minimal required oversight.
Assists with litigation matters, including document collection, discovery responses, and case file management.
Drafts, reviews, and edits contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal or transaction documents.
Coordinates and assists with responses to public records requests, subpoenas, and other legal inquiries.
Provides administrative support, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and preparing correspondence.
Liaises with internal stakeholders, external counsel, and government agencies as needed.
Represents the Office of the General Counsel to the public, University departments, and external contacts on a variety of issues and serves as an information source for staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and four years of recent paralegal legal experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with particular attention to detail.
Superior organization and logic skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects in a time sensitive environment.
Ability to interact with colleagues, superiors, internal clients, and external affiliates in a positive and constructive manner, even in the face of competing deadlines or significant workload.
Ability to effectively and professionally respond to client concerns.
Experience independently managing a significant caseload of diverse matters.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) or more years of experience working as a paralegal in a higher education, government, or corporate legal setting.
Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures.
Experience with procedures applicable to Connecticut state agencies.
Experience in contract review, regulatory compliance, or litigation support.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, permanent position. This Paralegal position requires completion of special assignments as needed, which may occasionally require working evenings or weekends.
