$1000 after two (2) years of service as a Sheriff’s Deputy.

** Please note that salary range listed is the performance range. Experience will be considered in determining pay rate. Employee can earn up to Performance Maximum of $54.71/hour with good performance.**

Performs duties involving the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances in the County on an assigned shift or on special assignments including Patrol, Investigations, Recreation (Boat/Snowmobile unit), Regional Drug Task Force, K9, Tactical Response Team, Negotiations Team, Drone Team, Crime Scene Team, Mobile Field Force, Civil Process, Court Security, and Community Engagement.

The work normally consists of routine patrol, investigation, and traffic regulation which may be performed in squads or on foot. Good oral and written communication skills are essential. The work involves personal danger, and the employee must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in emergencies.

Duties

Patrols streets, roads, highways, waterways, and recreation trails to ensure compliance with and enforcement of laws.

Reacts quickly and calmly in emergencies; responds to and assists in disaster management and recovery.

Answers emergency and complaint calls; interviews persons; attempts proper disposition; counsels in disputes.

Investigates accidents and crimes; gathers information; makes detailed reports; manages major incident scenes; preserves and processes evidence.

Conducts search operations for missing persons and property; assists law enforcement personnel as needed.

Issues citations, makes arrests, processes prisoners.

Serves warrants and court orders; maintains discipline in court; assists attorneys; provides testimony.

Investigates serious felonies; cultivates and uses Confidential Informants; coordinates large-scale investigations.

Provides case information and recommendations; conducts Crime Scene evidence collection; works with the County Attorney’s Office.

Performs forensic work on computers; coordinates with the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Maintains law enforcement equipment.

Participates in community outreach and education programs.

Prepares reports; maintains records.

Manages budgets, grants, and data entry.

Creates and supervises community crime prevention programs.

Conducts premise surveys and compliance checks.

Maintains physical fitness for operational tasks.

Works assigned hours/shifts; performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be eligible for licensing by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board as a full-time peace officer by the date of hire, and possess a valid driver’s license. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process

Selection will be based on screening of qualifications and experience. Top candidates will undergo additional assessments, including background checks, psychological evaluation, physical exam, drug testing, and approval by the County Board.
