Senior Trial Litigation Paralegal

The Litigation Trial Paralegal will work directly with attorneys on complex litigation matters from inception through trial. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, strong communication abilities, and the willingness to travel nationwide in support of lengthy trial assignments.

The ideal candidate is proactive, takes ownership of their work, anticipates attorney needs, and demonstrates a commitment to delivering a high-quality work product.

Salary Range: $85,000+ for candidates with approximately 5 years of relevant experience. $95,000+ for candidates with 10 to 15 years of relevant litigation and trial experience. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated trial expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Litigation Support

  • Prepare, edit, proofread, and finalize a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, agreements, correspondence, subpoenas, and discovery materials.
  • Partner closely with attorneys to ensure litigation continues advancing in each case.
  • Regularly update attorneys and team members regarding case status, deadlines, and litigation developments.
  • Quickly identify and communicate important client issues and case needs.

Discovery and Case Management

  • Assist attorneys with all phases of discovery, including:
  • Drafting and responding to discovery requests
  • Coordinating depositions
  • Issuing and tracking subpoenas
  • Managing discovery productions
  • Conduct document review and analysis utilizing various review platforms.
  • Manage and maintain electronic case files using document management systems.
  • Ensure case information is organized, accurate, and easily accessible.

Medical Records Analysis

  • Gather, review, and analyze complex medical records.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies and case summaries.
  • Organize records for attorney, expert witness, and trial use.

Trial Preparation and Support

  • Compile comprehensive trial materials and notebooks.
  • Coordinate witnesses and expert appearances.
  • Prepare and issue trial subpoenas.
  • Organize, prepare, and manage exhibits and demonstrative evidence.
  • Attend trials and provide hands-on support to attorneys throughout proceedings.

Trial Logistics and War Room Management

  • Set up and manage trial war rooms.
  • Coordinate trial technology and logistical needs, including:
  • Internet connectivity
  • Printing and copying services
  • Office supplies
  • Delivery and organization of trial materials
  • Work alongside on-site IT personnel to ensure technology functions smoothly throughout trial.
  • Anticipate and support attorneys’ needs during trial to ensure an efficient and successful courtroom experience.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;
    Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of litigation defense experience required.
  • Preferred 5 to 10+ years of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting attorneys through trial.
  • Experience handling complex litigation matters, large document productions, and electronic discovery.
  • Insurance defense, product liability, transportation, construction defect, or other complex defense litigation experience preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel nationwide in support of trials.
  • Trial assignments may require travel for six to eight weeks at a time.
  • All travel expenses are paid by the firm.
  • Overtime is expected and available during active trial periods.
  • Need to be available.
  • During trial could work 7 days a week.
  • Longer trials-Paralegal can come home 1 weekend per month.

Billing Requirements

  • Must be familiar with and able to comply with client billing guidelines.
  • Accurately enter and record billable time.
  • Prepare detailed, compliant billing entries.
