Responsibilities

  • Regulatory and Compliance: Ensure the REIT complies with all applicable Malaysian laws and regulations, including Securities Commission (SC) rules, REIT Guidelines, Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, taxation laws, PDPA, AMLA and real estate laws.
  • Trustee liaison: Collaborate with the Trustee on all legal, corporate, and compliance matters affecting the REIT, including regulatory reporting and Management Company functions.
  • Regulatory engagement: Liaise with the Securities Commission when required.
  • Contractual advisory: Advise and coordinate legal and contractual issues between the REIT and service providers such as property managers, mall management services, and internal/external auditors.
  • Periodic reporting: Ensure compliance in all periodic reports and submissions to the Securities Commission.
  • Corporate governance: Advise the Management Company on governance and shareholder matters and support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its duties in line with the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG).
  • Legal drafting: Draft and review internal and external legal documentation, ensuring compliance with Malaysian contract law and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Certified Compliance Officer (mandatory) — recognized under Malaysian compliance frameworks.
  • Proven working experience in compliance preferably within the Malaysian financial or real estate sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Securities Commission Malaysia rules, REIT Guidelines, Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, taxation, and real estate laws.
  • Familiarity with the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG) and other local governance frameworks.
  • Ability to probe issues effectively and develop accurate recommendations based on detailed research, regulatory obligations, and commercial context.
  • Sound knowledge of general business laws and the Malaysian regulatory framework.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
