Senior Legal Counsel – Employment Law Jobs in Hartford, CT at CVS Health
JOB OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to perform lead worker activities for the processing of warrants and similar legal documents; handle complex warrants and liaison interactions, including felony misdemeanors, municipal warrants, appellate warrants, governor’s warrants, letters of incarceration, detainers, etc.; and assist law enforcement agency inquiries with the routine and non-routine clerical and customer service tasks. This position acts under the supervision of the Assistant Director – Corrections Operations and Support Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves in lead worker capacity. Answers co-workers’ questions and provides guidance on policies and procedures.
Assists co-workers with problem-solving and intercedes with difficult court issues. Custodian of records for certain jail documents for court ordered subpoenas.
Maintains considerable knowledge and strict adherence of M.U.L.E.S. (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System) and N.C.I.C. (National Crime Information Center) procedures and protocols.
Maintains confidentiality of computer-generated information.
Obtains information for inquiries from the Jail Management Program. Navigates and obtains information for specific tasks such as preparing letters of incarceration, subpoenas, general inquiries etc.
Serves as liaison between department and courts, detectives, and government agencies for all felony, criminal misdemeanor, municipal and special warrant activities.
Coordinates and provides warrant information to the St. Charles County Police Fugitive Unit for the apprehension of fugitives.
Considerable phone liaison activities to gather situational information and resolve problems. Enters warrants and warrant recalls.
Handles the more complex type of warrants and legal documents, including letters of incarceration, detainees, misdemeanor, felony, municipal, appellate, and governor’s warrants.
Processes legal documents to hold suspects in another jurisdiction.
Trains new employees.
Process and knowledge of how to break down inmate files.
Maintains knowledge of procedural and statutory requirements, including changes. Interprets guidelines and makes determinations how to apply to given situation.
Performs data entry; sorts, codes, and verifies information; prepares documents for data entry and proper indexing; looks up statute codes and other information; determines if information meets established criteria. Researches problematic warrants.
Enters, validates, and revises warrant information on department computer.
Maintains records; files records according to filing system sequence; retrieves files; creates, updates, edits, deletes, verifies, adjusts, and closes records; certifies records; serves as custodian of records.
Prepares, types, and sends letters, court proceeding results, state notifications, and various other forms.
Collect monies and issue receipts for letters of incarceration fees.
Prints criminal histories. Sends and responds to law enforcement inquiries.
Transcribes, prints, distributes, and files dictated reports.
Performs Notary of Public duties.
Serves as- Mules Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), and Mules Local Area Security Officer (LASO).
Attends all MULES (TAC) functions, including mandatory meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Files warrants and other documents as needed.
Photocopies documents; operates shredder.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
General/technical high school diploma or GED equiv
Certifications
M.U.L.E.S certification is required after hire.
Job Experience
5 years of experience
Five years experience with data entry, records management and/or experience with the public, or any combination of education.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Basic knowledge and comprehension of legal terminology, court procedures and ability to communicate with court personnel and law enforcement to assist in daily routine activities and troubleshooting.
Knowledge and performance of all processes performed by Government Services Rep I, II, and III within the Department of Corrections.
Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
