The Organisation
Our client is a highly regarded Australian organisation with a significant presence across the construction, property and major projects sector.
With a substantial pipeline of current and upcoming projects, the organisation continues to grow its legal and commercial capability and has created a new opportunity for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Melbourne team.
This is an opportunity to move beyond a traditional legal advisory position and take on a role with genuine involvement in commercial strategy, major project procurement, contracting and delivery.
The Role
Working closely with senior management and key commercial stakeholders, you will provide strategic legal and commercial advice across a portfolio of significant projects.
You will be involved from the earliest stages of a project – helping determine how opportunities are structured, procured and contracted – through to negotiation, execution and delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on major construction, development and infrastructure projects;
- Drafting and negotiating complex construction, consultancy, procurement and project agreements;
- Advising on procurement strategy, contracting models and risk allocation;
- Supporting major tenders, bids and commercial negotiations;
- Working closely with project, commercial, procurement and technical teams;
- Identifying key contractual and commercial risks and developing practical solutions;
- Advising senior stakeholders on strategic project and commercial matters; and
- Supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from early strategy and procurement through to delivery.
About You
You will be an experienced construction and major projects lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business and being involved in commercial decision-making.
You will bring:
- 8+ years’ PQE;
- Strong front-end construction and major projects experience;
- Experience gained within a leading law firm and/or sophisticated in-house environment;
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across complex project agreements;
- An understanding of procurement, project delivery and contractual risk allocation;
- The confidence to work directly with senior executives and commercial stakeholders; and
- A pragmatic, commercially minded and solutions-focused approach.
