Job Title: In-House Counsel / Corporate Attorney

We are a fast-growing mortgage company based in Brea, California, committed to delivering reliable, compliant, and efficient mortgage solutions across the U.S. We are seeking an experienced and business-minded In-House Lawyer to join our dynamic team and provide strategic legal support across our operations.
Job Description:
As our In-House Counsel, you will serve as the primary legal advisor for the company, overseeing a broad range of legal matters including regulatory compliance, contract review, employment law, risk management, and litigation support. You will work closely with executive leadership to ensure all operations remain legally compliant in the highly regulated mortgage industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise on federal and state mortgage regulations (including CFPB, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, and Fair Lending laws)
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, vendor agreements, and service-level agreements
Provide legal counsel on corporate governance, licensing, employment issues, and risk mitigation
Support compliance efforts and assist in internal and external audits
Respond to regulatory inquiries, subpoenas, and litigation matters in coordination with outside counsel when needed
Collaborate with compliance, HR, operations, and executive teams to align business goals with legal safeguards
Assist in developing and enforcing internal legal policies and procedures
Monitor regulatory changes and recommend proactive strategies to ensure compliance
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing with the California State Bar
Minimum 1 years of legal experience, preferably including in-house experience in the mortgage, finance, or real estate sectors
Strong knowledge of U.S. mortgage lending laws and compliance regulations
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with federal and state regulatory bodies (e.g., CFPB, HUD, DRE)
Knowledge of licensing and operations across multiple U.S. states
Familiarity with loan origination, servicing, and secondary markets
