About the C+AI Trusted Platform Legal Team
The team focuses on:
Providing legal support to the C+AI Trusted Platform engineering team, which drives data privacy, compliance, security, residency, and global availability for enterprise products and services in the C+AI business division, including Azure, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform.
Leading horizontal regulatory compliance initiatives across C+AI engineering and C+AI Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA), in partnership with Experiences + Devices (E+D), Microsoft Security, the field, marketing, and cross-company SME teams including Privacy & Regulatory Affairs (PRA), Intellectual Property Group (IPG), Office of Responsible AI (ORA), and the Office of Critical Infrastructure (OCI).
Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted “compliance by design” advisor and legal counsel for the Trusted Platform data residency and foundation engineering client groups, including teams managing cloud availability, resiliency, BCDR, launch criteria, security, access control, and other technical areas.
Act as legal counsel for the Trusted Platform external risk mitigation team, working with clients to proactively address and mitigate issues raised by regulatory or regulatory-adjacent entities (EDPS, DIGIT, DSK, CNIL, Dutch MoJ), and partner with enterprise compliance engineering CELA teams to harmonize requirements and narratives.
Collaborate with SME teams to interpret data residency, privacy, and other regulatory developments worldwide, and identify impacts on products and services, advocating for mitigative positions.
Translate legal and regulatory requirements into engineering-facing guidance, promoting compliance by design in architecture, programs, and processes.
Identify legal risks in technology, program, or process design, and develop creative, cost-effective solutions and alternatives.
Provide advice grounded in relevant laws and regulations, creating scalable resources, delivering presentations, trainings, and holding office hours to increase efficiency.
Work with teams to address evolving customer and regulatory requirements, draft and negotiate contract language, and develop updates for future customer deals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate or equivalent international degree, or completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.
Active law license in relevant jurisdiction.
7+ years practicing law, or equivalent experience.
Experience counseling technical clients and translating legal requirements into engineering guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with enterprise online services.
Managing long-term, cross-organizational projects.
Strategic thinking, effective communication, and trusted advisory skills.
Ability to lead complex projects across disciplines and time zones.
Experience with global data compliance laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and standards (ISO, SOC, HIPAA, NIST).
Ability to work efficiently under deadlines, prioritize tasks, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
