Overview

The Abuse and Rape Crisis Center is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Direct Services Team. Our direct services include advocacy and accompaniment, counseling, support groups, hotline assistance, emergency safe housing, transportation, and childcare. We provide these critical services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

About the Role

As a Legal Advocate, you will play a key role in supporting victims as they navigate the legal system, both civil and criminal. Under general supervision, you will help create and maintain a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for survivors. You will also foster collaborative communication among program staff and ensure a trauma-informed approach in all aspects of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Services

Provide direct support to clients, including crisis counseling, hotline assistance, on-call response, and legal advocacy.
Assist clients in navigating the criminal justice system, ensuring they understand their rights and options.
Deliver a range of direct services, such as:
Individual and group crisis counseling, follow-up counseling, and support groups.
Information, referrals, and personal advocacy.
Criminal justice support and emergency legal advocacy.
Emergency financial assistance and assistance with Victims Compensation.
Notifications to clients regarding ICC hearings for PFA violations.
Offer counseling, on-call support, and shelter coverage as needed to ensure continuity of services.
Promote client well-being and safety by enforcing program expectations in a compassionate, trauma-informed manner.

2. General Duties

Maintain accurate records and meet reporting deadlines.
Engage in systems advocacy as required.
Collaborate with the team to meet client needs and foster a supportive workplace culture.
Attend staff meetings and contribute to team discussions.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization’s mission.

Position Details

Full-time, 38 hours per week

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Paralegal background, hotline experience, or equivalent legal system training.
Two or more years of experience in a human services field, college education, or prior relevant training.
Completion of ARCC Counselor/Advocate training (will be provided upon hire).

Skills & Competencies:

Strong organizational skills, including office management, record-keeping, and administrative tasks.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of and commitment to victim advocacy and survivor-centered support.
Basic computer proficiency.

Required clearances.
Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task orientation, and professionalism.
Non-judgmental approach with clear personal boundaries and the ability to establish rapport.
Proven ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with program participants, colleagues, and partner agencies.
Familiarity with community resources for high-risk populations.
Candidates must live within a 45-minute commute of the office to ensure timely availability for on-call duties and client support.

Do you have at least one year of experience working one on one with persons who have experienced trauma or who have been impacted by interpersonal violence?
Are you able to provide on-call (after hours) services, between 5 pm – 9 am nights and 9 am – 5 pm on weekends/holidays? On-call may include phone calls or in-person response and is approximately 5-6 shifts a month.
This position requires the candidate to be within 45 minutes of Towanda, PA, in case of on-call crisis response. Are you located within 45 minutes of Towanda, PA?
