Job Description

The Risk & Compliance Director, Netherlands is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and overseeing the company's risk management, compliance, AML/CFT, and governance framework under MiCA and applicable Dutch and European Union regulatory requirements.

The role serves as a key control function holder and will work closely with senior management, regulatory authorities, and business stakeholders to ensure the company operates in full compliance with MiCA, AMLD, Transfer of Funds Regulation (Travel Rule), DORA, sanctions requirements, and other applicable regulations.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in crypto-assets, fintech, payments, and financial services regulation, combined with strong leadership capabilities and the ability to operate effectively within a fast-growing international organization.

Job Responsibilities

1.Regulatory Compliance & Governance

  • Establish and maintain the compliance framework in accordance with MiCA, Dutch regulatory requirements, and applicable EU regulations.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulators, including the AFM and DNB, supporting licensing, regulatory reporting, and supervisory engagements.
  • Advise senior management and the Board on regulatory developments, compliance obligations, and emerging risks.

2.Risk Management

  • Develop and oversee the enterprise-wide risk management framework, including regulatory, operational, financial crime, technology, and reputational risks.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Support governance and risk reviews for new products, services, and strategic initiatives.

3.AML/CFT & Financial Crime Compliance

  • Maintain AML/CFT policies and controls in line with AMLD, Wwft, FATF standards, and MiCA requirements.
  • Oversee CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and suspicious activity reporting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Travel Rule requirements and other financial crime regulatory obligations.

4.MiCA & Operational Resilience Oversight

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with MiCA requirements applicable to Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs).
  • Oversee regulatory controls related to crypto-asset activities, custody arrangements, and client asset safeguarding.
  • Work with Technology and Operations teams to support compliance with DORA and operational resilience requirements.

5.Advisory, Training & Internal Controls

  • Provide compliance and risk advisory support to business, product, operations, and technology teams.
  • Develop and deliver compliance, AML, and risk-related training programs.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits, and remediation activities to ensure ongoing regulatory readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, FRM, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience in Compliance, Risk Management, AML/CFT, or Regulatory Affairs within fintech, payments, crypto-assets, banking, or financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of MiCA, AMLD, Wwft, Travel Rule requirements, DORA, and broader EU regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience of engaging directly with regulators and supporting licensing or regulatory approval processes.
  • Proven ability to build and scale compliance and risk frameworks within regulated environments.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Fluent English is required; Dutch language skills are an advantage.
