Jackson & MacNichol is a 120-person law firm with a single mission: helping U.S. military veterans get the VA disability benefits they have earned. We hire recent graduates and train them into a specialized federal practice.
If your search has turned up jobs that look like document review with a title, this is different. You will be trained from day one in a specific area of federal practice, work toward handling your own hearings within four to six months, and represent clients who served their country and are counting on you.
What the work looks like
· Learn to represent veteran clients before VA Regional Offices, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, or the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims
· Train under attorneys who have practiced nothing but VA law for years — structured onboarding, direct supervision, and real feedback
· Progress toward a full independent caseload, typically within four to six months
· Argue your own cases early — most of our new attorneys handle their first Board hearing within 4 months
An honest note: the learning curve is real and the caseload grows quickly. But few first jobs out of law school give you this much responsibility this early, or this many chances to change someone’s life.
What we require
· J.D. from an accredited law school; recent graduates and bar-pending candidates welcome
· Genuine interest in veterans’ issues and in becoming an expert in one area of law
· No prior VA or veterans law experience required
· Admission to and good standing with the bar of any U.S. state or territory (VA practice is federal — we do not require admission in a particular state, and we handle VA accreditation after you join)
· Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, and strong legal research skills
· A reliable home workspace and internet connection

Location
Fully remote. We hire anywhere in the Eastern or Central time zones. All VA hearings are conducted by video or telephone — there is no required travel.
Compensation & Benefits
· $80,000 starting salary
· Automatic increase to $85,000 upon reaching a full caseload — typically within six months ( (a full caseload is typically 15 hearings per month)
· Health insurance medical / dental / vision; employer pays 100% for basic plan
· 401(k) eligibility after one year 5 percent employer match
