Objectives Summary

Our department offers flexible work opportunities, including teleworking (a.k.a. working from home) and work schedules outside the typical 8 am to 5 pm schedule. Assist attorneys by researching legal standard, investigating facts or preparing legal documents. Conduct research to support a legal proceeding, to formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions:

Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare case accordingly.
Drafts legal instruments, motions, pleadings, appeals, draft docketing statements correspondence, releases and agreements.
Coordinates administrative support activities and deals with the public, and other organizations; develops reporting procedures, identifies and describes legal problem areas.
Serves as a contact between LOPD and all court staff, district attorneys, law enforcement personnel.
Maintain a case management/tracking system
Keeps accurate files of correspondence and materials relating to cases.
Assists in the interviewing of clients; conveys information to clients regarding the legal process.
Maintains an up-to-date jury questionnaire, pulls jury trial panels, prepares trial notebooks, and attend trials.
Prepare court dockets to include printing criminal summons, grand jury indictments, and supplemental criminal information.
Conduct eligibility and conflict checks
Prepare probation violation dockets
Convey information to clients regarding the status of cases and the legal process
Schedule court hearings and appointments.
Serve subpoenas, conduct interviews, conduct investigations, and prepare affidavits
Provide work direction and guidance to employees at lower levels.
This classification may be required to report to a judicial partner’s building or office. Which may include Courthouses, District Attorney Offices, Detention Centers and/or Correctional Facilities. To perform the essential functions an incumbent in this classification may be required to successfully complete a 3rd party background check conducted by a judicial partner.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of work experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s License.

Collective Bargaining: This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
