The Opportunity
A well-established real estate investment firm is seeking a Real Estate Counsel to join its in-house legal team in Atlanta, Georgia. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded real estate attorney to work on a broad range of sophisticated transactions, supporting the company’s growing investment platform across multiple asset classes.
Working closely with senior legal and business leadership, you will provide practical legal advice across the full lifecycle of real estate transactions, with a particular focus on leasing and operational matters while also supporting acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and joint venture activity.
Responsibilities
- Advise the business on a wide variety of commercial real estate matters, with a primary focus on leasing and day-to-day operational legal support.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial lease agreements, amendments, estoppels, SNDAs, and related leasing documentation.
- Support acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate assets, including due diligence, purchase and sale agreements, and transaction management.
- Assist with debt financing transactions, including loan documentation, lender negotiations, and closing processes.
- Provide legal support on joint venture formations, governance matters, and related commercial agreements.
- Partner closely with asset management, acquisitions, finance, and executive leadership to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
- Coordinate with external counsel and internal stakeholders to manage transactions efficiently from inception through closing.
- Identify legal risks and develop commercially pragmatic solutions that support the company’s investment objectives.
- Assist in developing and maintaining legal processes and best practices across the organisation.
Ideal Background
- J.D. from an accredited law school with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Experience advising on commercial real estate transactions, either in private practice or in-house.
- Strong experience with commercial leasing and real estate operations.
- Exposure to acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate assets.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and transaction management skills.
- Commercially focused with the ability to provide practical legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with business stakeholders.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting commercial real estate financing transactions.
- Exposure to joint venture structuring and documentation.
- Experience working with institutional real estate investors, developers, REITs, or private investment firms.
- Prior in-house experience supporting real estate investment or asset management businesses.
