Eviction Court Case Manager Job Description
Jesse Tree is seeking an Eviction Court Case Manager to fill a critical role in providing supportive services to households facing eviction in court. About Jesse Tree
Jesse Tree prevents eviction and homelessness for households in Idaho’s Treasure Valley by providing financial assistance, support, and connections to needed community services and resources during a household’s most critical time of need.
The Treasure Valley is experiencing unprecedented population growth, and housing and job development cannot keep up. As a result, people are living paycheck-to-paycheck and one unanticipated expense can easily send families into a tailspin, leaving them unable to pay rent.
Jesse Tree is the Treasure Valley’s only eviction prevention-focused organization working on the front lines of the housing crisis. We believe the solution to ending homelessness is to prevent it from happening to families in the first place. We must keep the traumatic, life-changing experience of eviction and homelessness from happening to people before it’s too late.
In line with the current community and client need for our services, Jesse Tree is working to expand the services and resources the organization can provide. This position will allow us to assist an additional 25 households each month to tenant households in need.
Project Duties
Meet with 20 households per month at risk of eviction prior to, during, and after their eviction court date. Support tenants through eviction court and coordinate care with pro bono attorneys, legal interns, and case management staff.
Provide education to tenants contacting Jesse Tree with questions about their upcoming court hearing and the Idaho eviction process.
Participate in eviction court each week, support tenants during mediation-advocate to avoid judgment.
Be results-driven: Conduct a minimum of four intakes weekly, provide support for tenants to follow through with mediation agreements, and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
Meet with clients in their homes or other locations around the community that are convenient for them, in the Jesse Tree office, or remotely.
Conduct outreach, advocate for, and provide information and assistance to tenants and their landlord/property manager to promote housing retention and prevent unit turnover/vacancies and homelessness.
Educate tenants on resources related to increasing their income, cutting expenses, and creating a household budget. Connect tenants to community resources and benefits that will help them stabilize their housing situation, including new housing opportunities if tenants cannot stay in their homes sustainably.
Serve as a point of contact for landlords/property managers and provide mediation and negotiation to assist tenants in avoiding a judgment for eviction, remaining successfully housed, setting up payment plans, or arrangements to move into new housing, if necessary.
Communicate with court staff, mediators, and attorneys to effectively support clients through their eviction court journey.
Successful applicants will have the following traits:
An entrepreneurial, collaborative, go-getter approach to getting our message out into the community, developing new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and creating new opportunities
A strong sense of ethics and a sincere passion for preventing and ending eviction and homelessness in our community
