Position Overview
Are you motivated to help those society often neglects? Do you enjoy advocating for the underdog? The New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender is seeking dedicated attorneys to join our Albuquerque Felony team and contribute to criminal justice reform.
We are looking for attorneys committed to advocating for indigent clients, interested in holistic representation, and eager to gain extensive courtroom and litigation experience. Candidates should be able to stand up for clients and the system, with knowledge of state statutes, evidence, and trial practice.
Public Defender 3
Average Pay: $44.62/hour, approximately $92,810 annually.

Responsibilities include:
Represent clients in misdemeanors, juvenile cases, and low-to-medium level felonies with minimal supervision.
Mentor and guide lower-level attorneys and law clerks.
Work under supervision from senior attorneys or the Managing Attorney.
Conduct plea negotiations with District Attorneys and other parties.
Participate in seminars, training, and stay current with professional literature.
Draft and review legal documents and reports.
Meet clients, file and argue motions, investigate cases, interview witnesses, go to trial, and handle appeals.
Analyze case outcomes based on investigation and law to advise clients on plea or trial options.
Assist appellate attorneys in reviewing records and supporting arguments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
