Position Description
The Seattle Police Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Administrative Staff Assistant to research, review, and assign Public Disclosure Requests to members of the Legal Section in an equitable and timely manner. In addition, this position will complete other administrative tasks and process Public Disclosure Requests for SPD’s Legal Section. This position requires advanced technical experience and knowledge of applicable statutes necessary to identify exempt material without direct management guidance or review.
Job Responsibilities
Research, review, enter and assign Public Disclosure and Legal Requests to members of the unit in an equitable and timely manner.
Process Public Disclosure Requests.
Review and interpret Public Disclosure Requests to ensure compliance with Local, State and Federal laws.
Review large volume of electronic and hard copy records for responsiveness and redactions. Use technology to apply redactions and to create exemption logs.
Routinely coordinate requests with other Sections, City Departments, and outside agencies.
Ability and willingness to use available technologies for searching, tracking, redaction, storing, and producing public records. Familiarity with electronic records systems, databases and technical skills required to use litigation support technology.
Draft and mail correspondence for Public Disclosure Requests.
Scan physical case files for members of the Section for response to Public Disclosure Requests.
Understand and comply with CJIS compliance standards for law enforcement records systems.
Monitor unit phone and voicemail.
Monitor and process mail.
Maintain and order office supplies for the Section.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Requires one year of experience in administrative analysis, budget administration or preparation, office management, personnel administration, program administration, as staff assistant, or in a closely related field; and a Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, or another closely related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent progressively responsible work experience in a position with similar duties in a legal setting or public agency environment, or similar related experience.
Knowledge of RCW 42.56, 13.50 and 9.73.
Ability to manage, organize, prioritize, and document searches, communications, processing, and responses.
Ability to multi-task and perform assigned tasks under pressure of deadlines with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated experience working in a confidential, deadline driven environment.
Familiarity with GovQA.
Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to use software programs such as Work, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Adobe Pro.
Position Requirements:
Must pass a Seattle Police Department background investigation.
Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license.
This position is a hybrid position; the City requires employees to report in person 3 days a week (subject to change). Individual schedules will be based on an agreement between the employee and their supervisor.
WAPRO Certification within three years of employment.

The full salary range for this position is $40.00 – $46.63 per hour.
New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $40.00 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
