Overview
Rutgers University
– Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator II. Rutgers Law School invites applications for a paralegal to begin immediately in the Clinical Program of the Newark location of the law school. The position is grant-funded, with secured funds for at least three years. The paralegal will support the work of all clinics in various subject areas.
Responsibilities include case intake, data entry and case management, supporting clinic faculty, attorneys, and law students, and quarterly reporting to the funder.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Intake cases.
Conduct initial fact gathering.
Schedule appointments and assist attorneys and law students with case-related tasks.
Assist with document preparation and court filings; conduct basic research as assigned by attorneys.
Communicate with other agencies and legal service providers and maintain information regarding referral options.
Create spreadsheets to track cases and outcomes; enter data; process incoming and outgoing mail; assist in preparation of quarterly grant reports.

Minimum Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; good communication skills; and computer literacy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
At least 2 years’ paralegal experience or equivalent.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe, and Google Drive.
Demonstrated time management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish).
Demonstrated interest in social justice causes.
Experience working with vulnerable clients.
Knowledge of case management systems, such as Clio and Box.
Physical Demands and
Work Environment
Frequent and intensive phone calls and emailing required.
