Probate Litigation Associate Jobs in Houston, TX at Crain Caton & James
· The work days will be Monday through Friday in the office (not remote). The hours will be 9:00 to 5:30, with a thirty-minute unpaid lunch at 12:30 p.m. A car is required.
· Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate required.
· Answer telephones in a professional manner.
· Describe the services and fees if asked.
· Immediately email telephone messages to the attorney(s) if they are not in the office.
· Scan all client-related mail in the client’s ShareFile and place a note on it where you scanned it before placing it in the Attorney’s inbox.
· Greet any customers that arrive at the office – dress business casual.
· Type about 75 words a minute.
· Prepare forms and documents as instructed in Microsoft Word 13 and Excel.
· Prepare documents in Adobe and Ecopy –The Firm will train on Ecopy.
· Issue clients paid receipts upon payment.
· Take telephone calls from clients and email clients as instructed by an Attorney, Law Clerk, or Legal Assistant.
· Prepare fax cover sheets and letters, make copies, and fax documents.
· Search for information on the following websites: Cook County Clerk, Cook County Recorder of Deeds, and Cook County Treasurer.
· Pick-up and file documents in courthouses, municipalities, park districts, libraries districts and agencies.
· Deliver mailings to the post office and attend Kinkos to convert oversized documents to PDF.
· Telephone calls to clients about information needed to complete documents.
· Scan old files into an electronic storage archive.
· Prepare files to be shredded by a professional shredding company by removing paper clips, rubber bands, and any original noncourt documents.
· Keep the work area neat and organized.
· Maintain an office file of office office notes and instructions.
· Take the firm’s paper/garbage out to the trash bin which is located outside next to the office in the evening before leaving the office.
· Input daily a summary of tasks performed in QuickBooks.
· Keep the new client log updated.
· Confirm dates in court orders emailed to everyone in the firm are in MyCase Calendar and a copy of the court order is in the client’s respective file.
· Complete MyCase tasks or MyCase Calendar events in a timely manner or comment on them explaining why they were not completed and when you expect to complete them.
· Perform additional office duties as may be requested by an Attorney at the firm (including, but not limited to, drafting documents, e-filing documents, initiating and checking the status of service, ordering and following up on tract searches, drafting and submitting court orders to court coordinators and opposing parties/counsels, performing legal research, preparing mailing labels, mailings etc.).
