Summary
The Director of Attorney Recruitment is responsible for the full-cycle recruiting process for all lateral attorney recruiting. This position has firm-wide impact by creating and managing a pipeline of qualified candidates to align with the Firm’s business strategy and provide excellent service to clients. The Director works closely with the Chief Talent, Diversity & Inclusion Officer (CTDIO), Managing Partner, Chief Operating Officer, Lateral Hiring Partner, and other Firm leaders to identify and assess business needs and implement strategies to attract and select the best talent for Firm growth.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a key member of the Talent Management team to attract, engage and retain top attorney talent.
Understand Firm’s practice groups and business model to identify predictors of successful lateral (partner and non-partner) candidates.
Work closely with the Firm’s Practice Group Leaders (“PGLs”), Managing Partner, and Executive Committee in setting Firm growth strategies and evaluating hiring needs; work with legal search firms to discuss the market and hiring needs.
Oversee lateral recruiting processes and the talent pipeline; create and implement strategies to ensure a positive candidate experience that reflects the professionalism and expertise of the Firm’s brand.
Work closely with members of the Talent Management team handling early-career/entry-level recruiting and ensure synergy between all aspects of the attorney recruiting cycle.
Create and monitor the annual budget for lateral recruiting efforts.
Leverage and build networks, conduct presentations, and attend events on behalf of the Firm.
Create and manage external recruiter and other vendor relationships as needed to support lateral recruiting and other talent efforts.
Co-manage the Recruiting Coordinator and work collaboratively with various colleagues (Talent Management, Business Development, Finance/Accounting, IT, HR, Facilities, etc.) to ensure a cohesive approach to talent acquisition and retention.
Work with Talent Management and HR colleagues to design and implement orientation, onboarding, and ongoing initiatives to promote lateral attorney integration, engagement, and retention.
Encourage, maintain and foster a high level of internal communication across all areas involved with recruiting and talent.
Engage as part of the Talent Management team with law clerks and programs to attract, retain and engage clerks.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
Minimum of seven to ten years of law firm recruiting in a high-growth mid-size or larger law firm required, with at least five years’ experience in a managerial role overseeing people and working closely with firm leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field; or, the combined equivalent education and experience.
Attorney recruiting leadership experience in a firm with multiple office locations preferred.
Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Demonstrated strong leadership, collaboration, project management, problem-solving, change management and influencing skills.
Proven ability to interact with all levels of management, business professionals and external clients in a highly effective, respectful and professional manner.
Ability to maintain competency and detailed knowledge of practice-specific technologies, including applicant tracking software and evaluation software.
