SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Assistant Clerk of Court will provide support to the Chief Clerk of Court in all duties of the Standing Rock Tribal Court and according to the Code of Justice.

SUPERVISION:

The Assistant Clerk of Court will work under the supervision of the Standing Rock Tribal Court, Chief Clerk of Court who will provide guidance, direction and conduct performance evaluations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Assists the Chief Clerk of court in preparing all necessary papers relating to criminal, civil and children’s court proceedings, including complaints, subpoenas, warrants, notices of appeal, petitions for review and other documents relating to the functions of the court.
Attends all proceedings of the court as necessary and as directed by the Chief Clerk of court and keeps accurate written records.
Assists in maintaining and securing written and audio records of all court proceedings.
Assists in collecting fines, costs and fees. May perform bond duty, collect bonds and account to authorized personnel.
Assists in maintaining court dockets, which includes scheduling arraignments, pre-trials, hearings, trials and jury trials.
Assists in maintaining prompt and accurate daily records.
Assist in providing the judge with all appropriate case files and materials for review prior to all court proceedings.
Performs general clerical duties or receptionist duties, such as filing, greeting and assisting the public, answering and properly routing phone calls and messages, general typing and making copies.
Submits statistical reports to Court Administrator on a monthly basis for department assigned to.

QUALFICATIONS:

Two (2) year degree in Office Technology, paralegal, Business Administration or related field with extensive experience. In lieu of minimum education requirement, will consider High school diploma/GED with three (3) year’s work experience in a court setting.
General knowledge of law and legal process, principles and practice.
General knowledge of operating computer systems and Microsoft office programs.
Proficient in general office duties, such as filing, typing, transcribing and efficient in office equipment (copy, fax, printers and scanner) and working with the public.
High Moral Character and Integrity, never convicted of a felony and/or misdemeanor.
Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.

JOB REQUIREMENT:

Abide by the Code of Ethics and Code of Justice.
Ability to maintain daily functions of court cases in the absence of Chief Clerk of Court.
Demonstrative strong organizational skills with special attention to detail and ability to operation under pressure and stress.
Rotation of assigned areas will be at the discretion of the Chief Clerk.
Required to obtain Clerk Certification training.
