$39.24/hr – $57.17/hr (2025 rates) depends upon experience and qualifications
Candidates hired during this recruitment process, who successfully complete their Field Training Program and one year of employment with the City of Eden Prairie, will receive a hiring bonus of $3,500

Rotating shift (must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays).
Responsibilities
The Police Officer begins their role in the Patrol Division by protecting and serving the community of Eden Prairie by providing quality services and law enforcement tailored to community needs.
Proactively patrols the community for potential public safety issues; uses sound judgment and critical thinking to monitor and deter potential crime.
Responds to and documents calls for police service such as reported crimes, suspicious activity, medical emergencies, and traffic accidents.
Enforces laws, ordinances, and codes with a focus on traffic enforcement.
Investigates crimes, including evidence collection, interviewing victims, suspects, witnesses, and preparing reports and court testimony.
Educates residents, schools, and businesses about public safety issues.
Secondary assignments are available after 12 months, including roles like K9 officer, SWAT team member, Field Training Officer, etc.
While primary duties focus on patrol and enforcement, teamwork is essential, and employees may perform various duties as part of their role.
Requirements
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in law enforcement or related field preferred; O.S.T. eligible by appointment, but no later than October 31, 2025. If education or P.O.S.T. Board Exam passed in another state, Minnesota P.O.S.T. requirements must be completed by October 31, 2025.
Knowledge of criminal and traffic law preferred; experience as a community service officer, explorer, security guard, etc., is beneficial.
Approximately 85% of time spent in the field on patrol. Must carry a firearm, wear body armor, and be prepared for exposure to various hazards. Must meet physical demands of Minnesota Peace Officer Training Board requirements and pass pre-employment evaluations including background, physical, and psychological tests.

Required to attend Emergency Medical Response (EMR) training; EMT certification encouraged.
Effective communicator; clear, concise writing; adaptable to different communication styles.
Self-confident, assertive, calm under pressure, capable of handling stress and crisis situations.
Reliable, responsible, punctual, and committed to organizational policies and confidentiality.
