Job Recruitment for Law Enforcement Academy – Eligibility List Establishment
This recruitment aims to establish an eligibility list for the Spring 2026 Law Enforcement Academy at Butte Community College, scheduled for December 2025 through June 2026. The City of Chico plans to sponsor up to 5 individuals, contingent on council approval. Successful graduates of the academy will become probationary Sworn Police Officers at “A step” on the pay scale.

Testing Information
Written Exam: The City of Chico uses the POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). Applicants need a T-Score of 47 or higher. Those with a recent (within 12 months) valid POST T-score can waive the written test by submitting proof. Otherwise, qualified applicants will be invited to take the exam. More details at
Physical Agility: Candidates must complete a physical agility test. Exemptions are available for those who have recently completed the City’s or a standardized WSTB course within six months. Contact Human Resources at  for exemption details.

Saturday, June 14th
Saturday, July 12th
Saturday, July 26th
Saturday, August 16th
Invitations for scheduling the Physical Agility Test and PELLETB will be sent once dates are confirmed. Candidates will undergo a background check, personal history statement, physical, psychological exam, and polygraph test.
Job Responsibilities
Under supervision, receive police officer training in various law enforcement tasks; perform non-sworn duties as needed; participate in academy activities including academic, physical, and field training; and perform related duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to modify work assignments and provide accommodations to enable qualified employees to perform essential functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of police responsibilities and activities.
Ability to recall facts, interpret complex documents, prepare reports, and follow instructions.
Effective communication with diverse populations.
Physical ability to perform law enforcement tasks.
Cooperative teamwork skills.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: None required.
Additional Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident applying for citizenship within three years of employment. Must be at least 21 years old  certifications/licenses required.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Frequent sitting, talking, hearing; occasional standing, walking, handling objects; lifting over 100 pounds; vision requirements; outdoor work in various weather conditions; exposure to mechanical, chemical, and physical hazards; moderate noise level.
