Criminal/Civil Law Paralegal for a fast-paced law firm located in Sterling, Virginia. Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Job description: Westlake Legal Group is recruiting a motivated paralegal to join our team. This individual will assist one or more attorneys, focusing in the areas of criminal law, civil litigation, real estate, bankruptcy, estate planning, and small business formation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and edit correspondence, pleadings, discovery documents, reports, and other documents
Draft and research legal pleadings
Review and catalog discovery
Regular interaction with clients and court personnel in person, via telephone, and email
Arrange and schedule appointments, consults, court appearances, depositions, meetings, and conference calls
Maintain and manage attorney calendars and deadlines (both personal and professional)
Field attorney phone calls and emails
Create and maintain files to organize and index all pleadings and other documents for cases
Prepare trial binders and collaborate with attorney in preparation of trial
Collaborate with attorney on a daily basis
Watch/review/summarize police camera footage
Requirements:
At least two or three years experience working as a paralegal (with at least one year of criminal experience)
Knowledge of court filing requirement (experience with e-filing in state and federal courts preferred)
Professional demeanor and appearance
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn interoffice computer system
Demonstrated ability to understand legal terminology
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of client service
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, co-workers, and other outside professionals
Preferences:
Experience operating Lexis Nexis
Experience with criminal law
Experience in reviewing and interpreting police camera footage
Compensation commensurate with experience.
