Job Summary
Oklahoma Educators Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented organized Staff Attorney. The Staff Attorney will primarily focus on pursuing and managing a caseload for the recovery of charged off assets, the recovery of unpaid loan collateral, and Fair Credit Reporting Compliance.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Coordinates recovery efforts through the Oklahoma court network on charged-off loans, credit cards, negative balances, fraud, and other types of services resulting in a loss to the credit union.
Works closely with the Collections Department and Senior Management to pursue the recovery of collateral on delinquent loans where conventional repossession efforts fail.
Drafts and Files Petitions in District Courts throughout the State of Oklahoma. Attends hearings and seeks judgment.
Drafts and Files Garnishment Affidavits and Summons in District Courts throughout the State of Oklahoma.
Reviews and advises internal teams on the legalities of trusts, power of attorney’s, estates, probates, and death accounts. Drafts and Files Responses to Probate Claims.
Reviews vendor contracts, advises of risks, and manages the vendor management and due diligence program.
Assists outside counsel on outsourced legal matters (i.e. foreclosures, bankruptcies, and cases filed in courts outside of Oklahoma). Responds to subpoenas.
Efficiently respond to requests for legal research by senior management. Analyze, distill and interpret complex laws, rules, and regulations in a clear and concise communicative manner (both oral and written).
Create and enhance template documents, agreements, policies, procedures and processes to create greater efficiencies for the Legal Department.
As a customer service organization, our employees are expected to consistently work hours as scheduled.
May perform other job duties as assigned and directed by management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of financial services industries, applicable industry regulations and procedures, and Banking and Creditor’s Rights law
Experience reviewing, editing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and related documents.
Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communications.
Expert in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Must be able to manage a caseload of 75+ pre-judgment cases and 75+ post-judgment cases.
Must be able to interact with all levels of employees throughout the Credit Union. Must be flexible and work as a member of a team.
Must safeguard highly confidential information.
Must be dressed for court every day and adhere to a strict dress-code.
Must be bondable.

Experience:

One to three years of similar or related experience.
Previous financial institution experience in a legal or non-legal role is highly desired.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college.
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.

Licenses:

Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma at the time of application.
Must maintain active license to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.
Licenses to practice in Western District of Oklahoma, Northern District of Oklahoma, and Eastern District of Oklahoma are a plus.

Schedule:

8-hour shift
Monday to Friday

Pay: $80,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
