Summary

The Intellectual Property Prosecution Paralegal supports attorneys in all aspects of U.S. and international patent prosecution. This role requires in-depth knowledge of IP practices, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex dockets and deadlines. The IP Prosecution Paralegal plays a key role in the management of IP portfolios, preparation and filing of legal documents, and client communication.

Essential Functions

Prepare and file U.S and PCT patent applications and associated prosecution documents with the USPTO.
Monitor and manage patent dockets to ensure deadlines are met and follow up as necessary with attorneys and clients.
Draft and revise legal documents, including IDSs, assignments, declarations, and reporting letters.
Perform preliminary review of Office Actions and prepare appropriate documentation for attorney review.
Maintain accurate and organized client files using the firm’s document management system.
Correspond with clients, foreign associates, and government agencies regarding patent matters.
Coordinate file transfers, conflict checks, client intake, and file closings.
Support attorneys in preparing reports and updates related to client IP portfolios.
Maintain a working knowledge of current USPTO and PCT rules and procedures.
Meet monthly billable-hour targets by accurately recording time entries.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and docketing systems.
High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks in a high-volume environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Working Conditions

Education and Experience Requirements

Paralegal certificate preferred
