Job Responsibilities

Join our dynamic team and take on a crucial role in the legal process. The successful candidate will prepare misdemeanor, felony, and amended warrants, conduct LEIN criminal record checks, redact police reports, and and process all paperwork as it relates to forensics and competency hearings. This position also involves regular interaction with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, county personnel, and the general public, ensuring seamless communication and efficiency. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as determined by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent with post-secondary training in legal or court procedures or two years para-professional experience in a legal environment. A thorough working knowledge of office protocol and procedures, including preparation and maintenance of legal documents and reports, and computer literacy are required. LEIN certification is required but will train if not currently certified. Must be able to type 50 wpm.

Paid Time Off
Pro-rated amount of 80 hours based on number remaining months in the year at time of hire.

Unused paid time off in excess of 120 hours will be added to the employee’s reserve sick leave bank up to 182 hours. Hours in excess of 182 will be placed in employee’s retirement bonus bank.

Paid Parental Leave
80 hours of paid time off for birth of a child or temporary placement of the child for adoption. Eligible the 1st of the month following date of hire, runs concurrently with FMLA

Probation Period
First 6 months of employment

Shift Differential
$1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 2:00 PM or later

Weekend Differential
$1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 11:00 PM Friday and ending at 7:00 AM Monday

Overtime
1 1/2 times regular straight-time rate for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week

Tuition Reimbursement
$365 per credit hour; maximum of 9 credit hours per year (see policy for eligibility)

Enrollment first of each month with a minimum investment of $25 per pay period

Mandatory participation in a Contributory Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
Employee contribution is 9.21% of pre-tax earnings

Employees who retire under the Kent County Retirement Plan (other than a deferred retirement) will receive pension service credit for all hours in their Retirement Bonus Bank at the time of retirement.

Supplement to Medical Benefits Premium
Based on years of service, employees may be eligible for a medical benefits premium supplement.
