Police Officer Responsibilities
Performs police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, responds to citizen complaints, and other law enforcement activities. Works under the general supervision of a Police Chief and/or Designee.
Performs security patrols, traffic control, investigations, and first aid at accidents, as well as detection, investigation, and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct.
Works rotating shifts, using judgment to handle difficult and emergency situations independently.
Maintains availability via radio, computer, or telephone while on duty.
Follows all applicable Federal, State, County, and Village ordinances.
Patrols village streets, parks, and areas to enforce laws, control traffic, and serve and protect the community.
Responds to emergency calls, investigates criminal complaints, and takes appropriate law enforcement actions.
Interrogates suspects, witnesses, and drivers; preserves evidence; makes arrests; and investigates vehicular accidents, including scene measurements and diagrams.
Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed during the shift.
Serves on various employee committees.

Minimum Qualifications
General
(A) Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
(B) Must possess, or be able to obtain by the time of hire, a valid State driver’s license without suspension or revocation.
(C) Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed.
(E) Must be able to read and write English.
(F) Must be of good moral character with temperate and industrious habits.
Education and Experience
(A) High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a two-year community college degree or vocational training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
