Description
Cranfill Sumner LLP is seeking an experienced paralegal to join our workers’ compensation section. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of insurance defense experience, assisting attorneys with their daily tasks, enhancing attorney effectiveness by providing legal support, and representing attorneys to clients and others. Paralegals at Cranfill Sumner LLP perform various tasks, including drafting legal documents, conducting research, and preparing for depositions, settlement conferences, motions, trials, and hearings.
This position offers the potential for a hybrid remote or fully remote arrangement for the right candidate!
Qualifications
Four-year degree, or
Paralegal certificate from an accredited program, or
At least 10 years of experience as a paralegal
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, etc.)
Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM
Knowledge of Net Documents and Elite is helpful
Flexibility and attention to detail
Excellent client service and interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Effective time management and organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and handle conflicting priorities
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Capability to support two or more attorneys
Timely task completion and deadline management
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Keen observation skills
Prior North Carolina insurance defense paralegal experience required
Knowledge of the NC Industrial Commission and familiarity with NC and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence
Expectations
Consistent attendance five days a week, on time (pre-approved or modified schedules permitted)
Accurate work output
Aiming for 100 or more billable hours per month
Essential Functions
The litigation paralegal may perform some or all of the following duties:
Record daily billable hours
Draft correspondence, case reports, and budgets
Draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, settlement agreements, and other court documents
Communicate with clients, witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel
Locate and interview witnesses and experts
Review and analyze documents for confidentiality and relevance
Maintain case files, organize documents, and perform legal research
Assist in trial preparations and manage attorney deadlines
Perform online research and cite-check briefs
Create databases, load transcripts, and prepare exhibits
Perform other related tasks as assigned
