Position: Paralegal 4 | Torts | Statewide
Position and Salary
Two permanent full‑time Paralegal 4 positions in the Torts Division. Locations:
Tumwater, Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Washington.
Salary: $73,284 – $98,520 effective 7/1/2025. $74,748 – $100,488 effective 7/1/2026. Stipends may apply: 5% King County fee, 5% location pay, 5% dual‑language fee.
About the Torts Division
The division defends tort claims, handles complex litigation, and provides risk‑management guidance. Cases include highway design, medical malpractice, employment disputes, and more.
Duties and Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and supervision to trial team Paralegal 3s.
- Serve as lead paralegal on the most complex and high‑impact litigation.
- Serve as discovery and database manager in high‑volume cases.
- Serve as trainer and second chair on complex trials.

Required Qualifications
Combination of seven years of experience through:
- Paralegal certification.
- Two‑year paralegal degree.
- Paralegal plus (or nine‑month paralegal, post‑BA) certification.
- Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney.
OR
- One year experience as a Paralegal 3 in Washington State Service.
Paraprofessional experience examples: preparing pleadings, ensuring service, calendaring events, managing case documents, tracking discovery, researching legal issues.
