What You’ll Do
As Corporate Counsel, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor across multiple areas, including employment law, resident-related matters, regulatory compliance, risk management, contracts, and litigation oversight. Your focus will be on timely, effective legal resolutions while helping to maintain a positive reputation with employees, residents, families, clients, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Employment & Labor Law
Provide legal guidance on employment law matters, including wage and hour compliance, discrimination claims, workplace investigations, harassment complaints, and disciplinary actions.
Collaborate with HR and leadership to develop employee handbooks, policies, and training programs that align with federal, state, and local regulations.
Support and guide internal workplace investigations related to employee complaints and ethics violations.
Manage employment-related disputes, including administrative agency claims (EEOC, DOL, state labor boards) and litigation defense.
Resident-Related Legal Matters
Advise on resident agreements, rights, accommodations, and regulatory obligations in alignment with industry best practices.
Address resident complaints, disputes, and regulatory inquiries regarding care, billing, and services, working toward timely and effective resolutions.
Ensure compliance with Fair Housing laws, HIPAA, and state-specific resident protections.
Partner with operations teams to implement policies that foster positive resident experiences while mitigating legal risks.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and training in collaboration with executive leadership and HR.
Stay ahead of regulatory changes affecting the senior living industry, including HIPAA, OSHA, ADA, FMLA, CMS, and state licensing regulations.
Provide proactive legal guidance on risk management, compliance audits, and regulatory filings.
Support timely responses to government inquiries, inspections, and compliance reviews.
Contracts & Business Operations
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, employment contracts, and resident agreements.
Provide legal oversight for real estate transactions, lease agreements, and operational contracts.
Collaborate with external counsel on litigation, settlements, and high-risk legal matters.
Litigation & Claims Management
Manage legal disputes, including employment lawsuits, resident claims, and regulatory investigations, prioritizing early resolution when possible.
Coordinate with outside counsel to develop cost-effective legal strategies.
Respond to subpoenas, legal notices, and government investigations in a timely manner.
Corporate Governance & Leadership Support
Assist in preparing executive leadership materials, corporate filings, and policy development.
Advise on strategic business initiatives, acquisitions, and regulatory matters.
Serve as a key legal resource for HR, compliance, and operations teams, ensuring alignment with Frontier’s culture, policies, and best practices.
What You Bring
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Texas (multi-state licensure preferred, especially in California and Oregon).
2-3+ years of legal experience in senior living, healthcare, employment law, regulatory compliance, or corporate counsel roles.
Expertise in employment law, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiations.
Experience working with EEOC, DOL, OSHA, CMS, and state licensing agencies.
Proficiency in legal management software (e.g., contract management, case management, compliance tracking) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Ability to work independently while also thriving as a collaborative team member.
Track record of innovation, problem-solving, and navigating complex legal and operational challenges.
Commitment to maintaining positive relationships with employees, residents, families, clients, and vendors.
Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills with a practical, business-focused approach.
Physical, Travel, and Schedule Requirements
Work Schedule: Must be available to work in-office, Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 8 hours per day, with flexibility as needed to meet business demands.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. and stand, walk, stoop, or bend for extended periods.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required to support community investigations, compliance reviews, and leadership meetings.
