Corporate Sustainability Consultant – ESG & Sustainability Team

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic Contractor to join the ESG & Sustainability Team, focusing on advancing science-based targets for vendor engagement. This role will play a critical part in enhancing sustainable vendor initiatives, supporting ESG disclosures and climate reporting, and contributing to various sustainability projects as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, a proven ability to lead multiple initiatives, and a passion for sustainability. Expertise in contractual negotiations related to sustainability is a valuable plus.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sustainable Vendor Engagement
· Collaborate with the procurement team to integrate sustainability into operational processes.
· Track vendor sustainability metrics related to engagement and compliance on an annual and quarterly basis.
· Support the development of RFPs and contracts, including drafting language that aligns with ESG and sustainability goals, and ensure vendor responses meet compliance standards.
· Assist in automating dashboards and reporting tools to monitor vendor compliance with sustainability requirements.
· Create resources and programs to engage vendors in sustainability initiatives and drive decarbonization across the value chain.
· Provide guidance on embedding ESG principles into vendor agreements to ensure accountability and transparency.
· Prepare quarterly updates for leadership on supply chain and vendor-related emissions data.
2. Regulation Readiness & Climate Data
· Collaborate with legal teams to ensure compliance with domestic and international ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., EU CSRD, CSDDD, SEC, TCFD, CASB219).
· Conduct gap assessments and benchmarking against peers to align with regulatory requirements and climate/ESG programs.
· Implement internal controls and processes to strengthen ESG data governance.
· Track, report, and analyze greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon footprint.
3. Customer Engagement
· Respond to customer inquiries related to ESG, with a focus on environmental and climate metrics.
· Conduct customer research and manage projects related to customer engagement.
4. General Support for Senior Leadership
· Provide research, briefings, and presentation materials as needed.
Location:
· Preference for candidates near NYC or SF offices who can collaborate in person, but 100% remote candidates within the U.S. are welcome.
Contract Details:
· Potential for conversion to a permanent role.
· Option to extend for up to one year.
Qualifications:
· 4+ years of ESG & Sustainability experience, with a strong focus on legal and contractual negotiations in supply chain and vendor management.
· Experience in corporate sustainability or ESG, preferably within the technology or SaaS industry.
· Proficiency in regulatory frameworks such as EU CSRD, CSDDD, SEC, TCFD, and third-party assessments like EcoVadis.
· Advanced skills in data analysis, process automation, and vendor ESG data management.
· Exceptional project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives concurrently.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop effective presentations.
· Self-motivated, proactive, and a collaborative team player.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
· Expertise in legal negotiations, including drafting and negotiating sustainability-related contract clauses.
· Experience in human rights risk assessments within supply chains.
· Familiarity with supply chain transparency tools and ESG reporting platforms.
· Proficiency in Watershed reporting software.
· Strong data visualization skills for communicating ESG metrics to stakeholders.
