We are looking for a Director of Legal Services who will take ownership of developing, standardizing, and implementing legal procedures that ensure smooth and efficient case handling. This role is ideal for an experienced legal professional who understands how cases should be handled from intake through trial prep and can create clear, repeatable systems that allow legal assistants and paralegals to work within a structured, process-driven environment rather than improvising each time.
This position is not focused on client representation but rather on building a legal operations system that enhances efficiency, compliance, and client service.

Job Summary:
The Director of Legal Services will be responsible for designing, refining, and enforcing legal workflows for the firm’s criminal defense cases. The goal is to ensure that every case follows a structured, efficient process so legal assistants and paralegals don’t have to start from scratch on each case.
This role requires a deep understanding of case management, legal documentation, and procedural best practices, with an emphasis on criminal defense. However, candidates with will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:1. Legal Process Development & Standardization
Create and implement structured workflows for case intake, discovery, motions, trial preparation, and client communication.
Develop clear, step-by-step procedures that legal assistants and paralegals can follow to increase efficiency and consistency.
Identify gaps in current case handling procedures and create solutions to eliminate inefficiencies.
Develop document templates, procedural guides, and standardized checklists to streamline legal assistant responsibilities.
2. Staff Supervision & Training
Oversee legal assistants and paralegals, ensuring they adhere to established processes.
Provide training and mentorship to improve legal support team efficiency and effectiveness.
Establish quality control measures to ensure case files are handled properly and deadlines are met.
3. Compliance & Quality Control
Ensure all case handling procedures align with Texas legal requirements and best practices.
Monitor workflow adherence and enforce compliance with firm policies.
Work closely with attorneys to improve case preparation and procedural efficiency.
Implement tracking systems to measure workflow effectiveness and identify areas for continuous improvement.
4. Software & Technology Integration
Develop and refine case management workflows within firm software (MyCase, Pipedrive, or similar platforms).
Train legal assistants and paralegals on efficient use of case management tools to track deadlines and automate routine tasks.
Required Qualifications:
Licensed attorney in Texas OR another U.S. state OR
Formerly licensed attorney (active license not required) OR
Law school graduate with extensive experience in legal operations, case procedures, and process development
5+ years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in a case management, procedural development, or legal operations role
Strong understanding of criminal defense procedures; is also valuable
Proven ability to develop, implement, and enforce standardized legal workflows
Experience managing legal staff and ensuring procedural adherence
Tech-savvy, with experience implementing case management software and workflow automation tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in developing training materials and procedural guides
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in legal process automation
Strong background in legal compliance, case prep workflows, and law firm operations
Prior experience in a high-volume law firm environment
