The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (CAO) Administration division is seeking a Law Clerk and Training Administrator. This position involves outreach as well as recruitment for law clerk staffing and coordination and facilitation of training and CLE opportunities.

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. This position will be performed mostly onsite for the probationary period and will then transition to a more flexible hybrid model. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
Establish departmental training goals and objectives that are aligned with Hennepin County’s values and the department’s strategic framework.
Create and distribute resources, including electronic and printed materials, recorded sessions and in-person curriculum for recruitment, training, outreach, and new hires joining CAO.
Develop standard operating procedures, best practices and training policies for attorney and non-attorney staff.
Collaborate with internal and external partners and vendors for CLE training needs, opportunities, and curriculum.
Manage intake for office-wide training and conference requests evaluating costs and budgetary impacts.
Coordinate recruitment, hiring, and resource planning for law clerks annually; assess staffing needs, resources, workloads and appropriate distribution of work.
Coordinate the 12-week Law Clerk Summer Program providing training opportunities, shadowing and other in the field experiences for law students and intern staff.
Coordinate CAO Trial School(s) providing in-person training sessions, unique to specific work, process and ideologies for staff.
Represent CAO at external events including on-campus interviews, recruitment, training, outreach and public law panels, affinity groups and bar associations and Community Affairs sponsored events.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Law degree and one or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position
Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, legal studies, political science, criminal justice or other field appropriate to the position and two or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, legal studies, political science, criminal justice or other field appropriate to the position and four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

Note: Professional related experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Nice to have:

Experience:
Recruiting or hiring in a public law office and/or a closely related professional environment (e.g., prosecutor or public defender offices).
Developing and facilitating in-person learning sessions, virtual trainings, and large group engagement activities.
Managing multiple projects and organizing work to meet deadlines and conflicting priorities.
In training or program development, implementation and evaluation.
Skill using:
Microsoft Office products, including Access, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS), Minnesota Government Access (MGA) and ProCase systems
Ability to:
Establish working relationships and collaborate with other county departments.
Analyze the training needs and provide training as appropriate (individual, group, on-line, etc.).
Conduct needs analysis, identify problems, recommend actions and solutions with some direction and independence.
Interact with the public and staff with tact and discretion.
Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for internal and external attendees.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communication based on audience and format (e.g. in person, email, letters, manuals, presentation, etc.).
