Paralegal / Legal Assistant – 1+ Year Legal Experience

Zebas Law Firm is a growing law firm with offices in Hobbs, New Mexico and Tucson, Arizona. We are seeking a dependable, highly organized Paralegal / Legal Assistant with at least one year of legal experience to join our team in our Hobbs office.

As our firm continues to grow and expand, we are looking for someone who wants more than just a job. The right candidate will become an important part of a collaborative legal team that works across both our New Mexico and Arizona offices.
This is an in-person position in Hobbs, New Mexico. The employee will regularly collaborate with attorneys and staff in both offices and must be comfortable participating in meetings by Zoom and communicating effectively with team members who are not physically located in the same office.

Responsibilities
The Paralegal / Legal Assistant will work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff throughout the life of a case. Responsibilities may include:
- Assist attorneys and paralegals with active case management
- Maintain organized, complete, and accurate client files
- Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, medical providers, courts, insurance companies, and other parties
- Request, obtain, organize, and review medical records, billing records, reports, and other case-related documents
- Draft and prepare correspondence, pleadings, discovery, notices, and other legal documents under attorney supervision
- Assist with preparation of settlement demands and case summaries
- Review documents and case files for completeness and accuracy
- Calendar deadlines, hearings, appointments, and other important case dates
- Assist attorneys with discovery and litigation preparation
- Organize exhibits, records, and other materials for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials
- File documents with courts and maintain familiarity with applicable filing procedures
- Perform factual and legal research as directed by attorneys
- Communicate with clients regarding the status and needs of their cases
- Follow up on outstanding records, documents, and case-related requests
- Work collaboratively with attorneys and staff located in both New Mexico and Arizona
- Participate professionally and effectively in Zoom meetings and other remote team communications
- Assist with general administrative responsibilities necessary to keep cases moving efficiently
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client and firm matters
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in a law firm, legal department, court, or judicial setting required
- 2+ years of legal experience preferred
- Previous paralegal or legal assistant experience strongly preferred
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases, tasks, and deadlines
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team
- Comfortable collaborating with attorneys and coworkers in another office using Zoom, phone, email, and electronic case-management systems
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new technology
- Dependable, professional, and able to handle confidential information appropriately
Experience with personal injury, civil litigation, criminal law, or the judicial system is a plus.
