  • The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to Attorneys by preparing, processing, and managing a wide range of complex legal documents and case materials.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, and document preparation standards while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable federal regulations and court requirements.
  • Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of technical legal documents that are voluminous, complex, and time sensitive.
  • Reviews incoming materials and independently determine the appropriate assembly and preparation of a variety of legal documents, including complaints, motions, pleadings, orders, answers, subpoenas, warrants, and other litigation-related filings.
  • Obtain information from case files, law enforcement agencies, courts, and other authorized sources to prepare complete legal documents for review by the appropriate Attorneys or, when authorized, for direct submission to the court.
  • Analyze the nature and status of assigned cases to ensure legal documents are prepared accurately and in accordance with applicable procedural requirements.
  • Prepare a broad range of recurring legal documents with minimal supervision, including indictments, criminal and civil complaints, motions, search warrants, seizure warrants, judgments, garnishments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, deposition subpoenas, orders to show cause, satisfactions of judgment, proofs of claim, and other legal pleadings in compliance with established court rules, formatting standards, and legal procedures.

Typical assignments include:

  • Assist with trial preparation by independently compiling trial notebooks, organizing case materials, preparing jury instructions, assembling witness and exhibit lists, and performing additional litigation support tasks as required.
  • Assemble exhibits, affidavits, evidentiary materials, and supporting documentation for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
  • Utilize legal research tools and online legal databases to verify citations, statutory references, and case authorities contained in legal documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency with source materials. Prepare tables of contents, indices, and citation tables for legal briefs and other court filings in accordance with established legal formatting requirements.
  • Draft original correspondence requiring knowledge of legal procedures and specialized legal terminology, including transmittal letters, requests for extensions of time, case status notifications, communications with federal agencies, and notices to attorneys representing defendants.
  • Respond to inquiries from visitors, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and the public regarding pending and closed matters, office procedures, and case status, while determining when issues should be referred to an ATTORNEYS based on complexity or urgency.
  • Perform case docketing functions by opening, updating, monitoring, and closing cases using automated case management and tracking systems.
  • Maintain accurate case records and conduct database searches to retrieve required case information.
  • Track filing deadlines, hearings, trials, scheduling conferences, depositions, interviews, and other litigation milestones.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable calendaring and suspense system to monitor deadlines and ensure Attorneys are informed of upcoming court appearances, filing requirements, and other critical case events.
  • Manage ATTORNEYS calendars by scheduling appointments, meetings, interviews, and conferences, while providing timely reminders of court appearances, deadlines, and professional commitments. The Legal Assistant exercises sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail while working independently under limited supervision.
  • The position requires strong organizational skills, proficiency in legal document preparation, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment while maintaining strict confidentiality and supporting the successful litigation of federal criminal and civil matters.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High Schol Diploma or equivalent required: an associate’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a professional office environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Candidates must be able to integrate content from multiple software applications, including incorporating tables, charts, and graphs generated from databases and spreadsheets into word or desktop publishing documents. Proficiency in word processing, document management and review, file management systems, and data entry are required.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and technology, including computers, multifunction printers/ copiers, and scanners.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize assignments, review a wide variety of documents, and consistently meet established deadlines.

Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder.

Pay: $28.00 – $29.41 per hour
