The mission of the Administrative Hearing Office (AHO) is to adjudicate tax, property, and motor vehicle-related administrative hearings in a fair, efficient, and impartial manner independent of the executive agency that is a party to the proceeding.

Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for the intake and initiation of new cases within the agency and requires the regular exercise of sound judgment and legal analysis. Key responsibilities include determining the appropriate type of hearing (in-person, telephone, or video), evaluating jurisdictional deadlines for scheduling, identifying necessary witnesses for subpoena, and assessing the validity of continuance requests. These duties are performed within the broader context of managing a substantial docket of cases and coordinating case staffing.
How does it get done?
Duties for this position include:
Creation of new e-files in Case Management Systems and ensure appropriate file protocols are maintained and followed
Communicate with MVD, Attorneys, Drivers, and Law Enforcement Agencies
Process and mail all decisions and orders, including sustained revocations, rescinded revocations and other types of hearings
Oversee reception desk, interacting with hearing participants arriving for scheduled hearings and inquiries from the general public

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of work experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research, and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Desplay (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage, and includes contact with adult imates/offenders.
